MATCH REPORT v EGBERTIANS 28 NOVEMBER 2009

MATCH REPORT V EGBERTIANS
LEAGUE 28 NOVEMBER 2009
Score: Won 7 - 2 Scorers: Adam B - 3, Niki 3, Harvey 1

Before the game I had thought that this was a good side we were playing against as they had not done to bad in the league so far. Our 4th team played them in the cup a few weeks ago and although they beat them, in extra time I think, I was told that they were quite a dirty side and would try and intimidate you. For some reason Dont Fuck With Me smiled when I mentioned this, which made feel afraid. Very afraid!

The first half was strange as we had all the possession and all the chances but 35 minutes into the half it was standing at 1 - 1. We took the lead early in the half with Baroll gettin his first goal of the game. We kept on attacking and they hardly got out of their half, with Hip Hop Harvey coming close a few times. Then after 35 minutes they managed to get the ball into our half and Blackpudding managed to handball it and give them a penalty. He complained to the ref that it did not hit his hand, but as he virtually caught the ball with both hands his protests were in vain.

This is the 3rd season that Nutter has been playing in goal for us and his record for penalty saves has been awfull. I should refraise that. His record for even going in the right direction from a penalty has been awfull. The nearest he has got to a penalty was a couple of seasons ago when the ball hit the back of the net and rebounded onto his head. So I wasnt very hopefull of him saving this one. I was right. The ball went to his right and he dived to his left. I think Shag was nearer to saving the ball and he was outside the penalty area. Never mind, perhaps we should give him some practice in saving penalties at training.

No, Fuck it, he will stil probably go the wrong way.

We kept on pressing for the rest of the half, with Hip Hop still not able to score. He had chance after chance but the ball just would not go in the back of the net. Couldn't, brothel and score rings a bell.

I mentioned last week that Shag had his first opportunity to score for 50 years and missed it. This week he ventured forward again playing some good football with Petros and Niki. His chance came in one of these attacks when he cut inside the defender and had an opportunuty to shoot. We all cried SHOOT, but he lost his bottle and decided to play a weak pass to nobody in particular. Never mind, maybe next year.

But their goal seemed to have woken us up, and we kept on attacking. We managed to score two goals in the last 5 minutes of the half. The first by Baroll, to get his second of the game and the second from Niki.
HT 3 - 1

At half time Shag came off for the Mad Scotsman who slotted in at left back. I still had three subs left but could only use two of them. As Carl was left on the bench for a previous game I thought it only fair to let him have a game. I think Carl is a strange animal. He is very quiet and doesn't say a lot, but I have seen him in action against Wood Green a couple of years ago when Can't Take My Stella had a tiff with a gangster rapper playing for Wood Green. The next thing I knew, was Carl smacking another rapper in the mouth. Silent but deadly.

Anyhow, I thought that Silent But Deadly should get a game, so I told him I would put him on after 10 minutes of the second half.

We totally dominated the game . Baroll got his hatrick early in the second half to make it 4 -1. Slient but Deadly them came on for Chris Dont stop Fucking Running Bagely. Niki then got his 2nd and third goals to make a second hatrick of the day. 6 - 1.

Hip hop was still trying his best to score but the ball just would not go in.

I then had to make a decision betweem Sicknote and Cant take my Stella, as to who would go on. In the end I opted for Sicknote who replaced Relax. Not and easy decision but one that had to be made.

Finally, Hip hop managed to score even though the ball went in off the post. 7 - 1

It was a rout and our defence decided that they would like to get on the scoresheet and lost their shape. Gigalo and Blackpudding were pushing forward thinking they were Maradona. This left a gap at the back which was exploited by Egbertians and they pulled a goal back 7 - 2. Dissapointing, as I would like us to concede the least goals this season of any of the Minch sides.

It was a good win that leaves us in second place in the league 2 points behind the leaders with 2 games in hand and still unbeaten. We did play some great football and I think we impressed all the onlookers. I have had comments from Charlie Smith, the Club Captain, on how well the team played and from a couple of other onlookers, so well done all.

Next weeks game is at home again v Tollingtinians. Will let you all have details in due course.

Match report v Aloysians League Saturday 21 November 2009

Match report v Aloysians
Score: won 3 - 0

We welcomed Aloysians to Bramley Road on Saturday. This was the team that was promoted with us from Division 6 last year. Our home game against the last year ended up 5 - 5 and I was hoping that we would do better this time against them.

We had a few players missing this week and ended up with 12, with Chris Bagley starting as sub. I also had a quiet word with Lewis to make sure he didnt let their goalkeeper score like last week!!

We started the game well and played some great football in the first half. We passed it around and it seemed that sometimes they were chasing shadows. Everyones passing and control was good in the first half except for Shag, who we thought must have been on the piss last night.

Their only chances in the first half were given to them by our mistakes, but they were very few.

We put pressure on their goal and created a couple of good chances. After about 20 minutes we scored with Harvey slotting the ball into the net. 1 - 0

We put pressure on them for the rest of the half but could not extend our lead.

At half time we talked about getting the ball earlier to the front two and this was the plan for the second half.

During the second half we had so many chances that we could have scored as many goals as Spurs did on Sunday, but the ball just wouldnt go in. Niki must have run over a bag of black cats. He had one chance where he lobbed the keeper and if was going into the net until their centre back somehow managed to get back and clear it off the line. He also had a header from a corner cleared off the line. The best one was a header onto the cross bar that rebounded onto him and off for a goalkick. On another day he could have had 5 goals like Defoe.

With 15 minutes to go and the score still at 1 - 0 Chris came on for Sean. We continued to press and with about 10 minuted left Niki finally got the goal he deserved. 2 - 0

Soon after they kicked off we attacked again with Petros finishing off a good move 3 - 0

Finally, our skipper, Shag, got a golden opportunity to score. He ran into the box as the ball was crossed in, and found himself with loads of space in the six yard box and no defender around him. The goalkeeper was on the floor and the goal was empty. Unfortunately for him, he was so far up the pitch that the blood from his nosebleed must have blurred his vision and his header went wide of the post for a goalkick off the corner flag. Never mind, he will get another opportunity to score in the next 5 years.

A good win for us which puts us 2nd in the league with 2 games in hand of the top team and only two points behind. It was good to have a clean sheet as well. I thought everyone played well on Saturday and if we play like that there wont be many teams that will be able to cope with us. The front two of Harvey and Niki seemed to link up well and their movement was good throughout the game.

Man of the Match: Niki

This week we are at home to Egbertians and I will post details when I have them.

Match report V Latymer 14 November 2009

Match Report v Latymer league 14 November 2009
Score 3 - 3

I knew this game would cause us a problem as last season we were never able to beat them. We drew one and lost one in the league and lost to them in the Cup although they are cheating bastards.

The weather report for Saturday said that there would be a slight breeze in the air in the afternoon.

Our game was moved to Firs Farm on Saturday morning as the top pitch at Bramley was waterlogged. The first 11 were complaining that they now had to play on the bottom pitch, and as I am such a nice guy, I offered to switch with them so they could go to Firs Farm. I was told to Fuck Off. Never mind, I tried.

When we got to the pitch the wind was kind of fresh and blowing from right to left. Shag is the unlukiest bastard I know as he lost the toss, again, and Latymer chose to kick against the wind in the first half. I think we should keep him as captain but ask someone else to do the toss as he must have run over a bag of black cats whilst driving under a very big ladder.

Anyhow, with the wind on our side we we were pressing forward for the first 20 minutes, but the wind also caused us problems as the ball was running away with each pass. We did play some good football and were rewarded with a goal from Petros. 1 - 0

For the rest of the first half the game was played mainly in their half with the only chances that they had, coming from errors on our part. One such error occured right at the end of the half when we gave the ball away on the edge of thier box and they broke and scored. Also towards the end of the half Aaron got a knock to the head and thought he was in Ibiza, so had to come off as he was asking if anyone had any e's. The Mad Scotsman then went to the Centre back position and Sonny came on in midfield.

HT 1 - 1

It did not look good as I was hoping to have a least a two goal lead at half time as the wind was picking up and it was in their favour in the second half. The wind was so strong that we had trouble getting the ball out of our half. Both teams found it hard to control the ball as the wind was so strong. Then the craziest thing happened. Their goalkeeper took a drop kick and it bounced once and sailed over Nutter Lewis's head into the back of the net. 1 - 2

I then took of Petros in order to give Harvey a game with about 20 minutes left. Neither of our forwards were getting much of the ball as the wind was gathering pace as the second half went on. They were constantly attacking us with Lewis pulling off a string of fine saves. In the end the pressure was too much and they managed to score with about 7 minutes left 1 - 3

It looked all over as we had the wing agaonst us and picking up pace all the time. I think it was about a Force 10 gale. I had to play my last card. I moved Dont Fuck With Me Tompkinson to Right midfield and put Ben O'Neil at right back, taking Carl off.

Then against the wind and the run of play, a ball was played through to Harvey who was about 5 yards offside. He went through and put the ball into the back of the net. GOAL. The ref did not blow up and the Latymer boys went mad. 2 - 3

With only about 2 minutes to go, the ball was played to Harvey who then cut inside onto his left foot and stuck a sweet shot towards goal. Even with a gale blowing against the shot it still managed to reach the keeper who parried it behind him and grabbed the ball before it went into the net. By his reaction you could tell that it had crossed the line. There is no way the ref could have seen it but Barroll was claiming a goal and the ref gave it. Cue the Latymer Boys having a fit again. 3 - 3

Great result in the end as it felt like a win. Hopefully one day we will play LAtymer when the conditions are good and they do not have higher players in their team. My dream is that we thrash them and they go home crying to their mums.

Man of the match: Lewis Nutter Pontin

Match report v Leyton County Sat 7 November 2009

Game league v Leyton County away
Won 6 - 1

Unfortunately I couldn't be at the game on Saturday and asked Shag to let me know details for a match report. As you all know, he is an old git and can't remember further back than a 12 hour period, so I managed to get the score off him and the goalscorers but little else. He did say that he thought he was man of the match, but couldn't remember if had played well or not.

So anyhow, I've had to make the match report up myself .

The game started badly for us with Leyton on the attack for the first 15 minutes and they were creating chance after chance, but Lewis Nutter Pontin in goal was making some fingertip saves and one handed catches, definately 1st 11 form. Ive already informed Mickey Peirce, the first 11 manager, who said that I must be mad if he thought that he would pick that nutter for his team. I don't know what he meant by that! He must have seen his performance during training last Thursday.

Anyhow, after the first 15 minutes our defence, which consisted of Andy Blackpudding Blackburn, Aaron Gigalo Wilson, Adam Dont Fuck With Me Tompkinson and Craig Shag Chambers started playing absolutely brilliantly and did not give Leyton another chance.

Our midfield was working hard with Adam Baroll Barrett taking out three at a time and Sonny Relax Davis was swaying his hips and making the rest of their team dizzy in that midfield. Even Tom Sicknote Hannington did not get injured. Things were going well until Shag forgot that the game waas still on and went to the touchline to get some jelly beans and a bannana, which left a gap in our defence. Their players noticed this and attacked down our left side and one of them took a shot from the touchline which went over Nutters head and into the far corner. Shit we were 1 - 0 down. Dont Fuck With Me, and Gigalo started having a go at Shag but Blackpudding and Sean The Mad Ginger Scotsman Gallagher stepped in and calmed it all down.
HT 0 - 1

We had to push forward in the second half as nothing more than a win would be good enough. The half time team talk given by Kevin I'm Going To Kill You Llyons inspired all the players especially John Cant Take My Stella Henderson who came on in the second half.

We started pressing forward and a long ball from Dont Fuck With Me was contolled by Sicknote and the cross was sent in low accross the 6 yard box and Barroll slid in and scored our first goal. Shag wasnt sure if it was Barroll who got the last touch or one of the 4 players that he took with him as he slid in. I've given the benefit of the doubt to Barroll. 1 - 1

We kept on attacking and after about 20 minutes Relax swayed with the ball and mesmerised about 4 of their players. His pass found Niki Im From Enfield Old Gramarians Heigho, who slotted the ball into the back of the net. 2 - 1

Control of the game was now ours and goals followed by Petros and Harvey (will think of other names for them next week) 4 - 1

With 10 minutes to go we got a corner and The Mad Ginger Scotsman whipped it in from the left and it was flicked on by Cant Take My Stella for Gigalo to poke it into the net. 5 - 1

I am told our last goal was something special. Relax picked up the ball in the middle of the park and played a one two with Chris You Better Not Fucking Give Up Bageley and then went on a run past 5 of their players. Every time he looked like he had just kicked the ball a bit too far, but he controlled it with his studs and got passed them all. He then played the ball to Blackpudding who had joined in with the attack, who in turn passed it to Cant Take My Stella. Cant Take My Stella gave it back to Relax who stoked the ball into the back of the net. 6 - 1

Seriously, great result and I am told everyone played well.

We are at home next week v Latymer and I will let you have details later in the week.

Match report v Goff Old Boys - Saturday 31st October 2009

League game Saturday 31st October 2009 away v Goffs Old Boys
Won 1 - 0

It was good to get back to a League game again after so many cup games. This was only our second league game of the season. Looking at the league table it seems that since we beat Belonians in our first game of the season they have improved a great deal as they are sitting on top of the league after having some good results. Or it could be that the teams they have been playing are shit.

On Saturday morning I got a call from Tony saying that the Vets had a cup game and only had 10 players. So I as I am an old git I went and made the 11th man.
Wasn't much use as we lost 4 - 3.

Therefore I couldn't be at the game on Saturday.

According the Shag they were not a bad side and Sean says they are the hardest team that we have played this season. I was also told that they were a physical side. Good goal by Niki by all accounts which gave us the lead in the first half. They also went down to 10 men by getting someone sent off, but still came at us in the second half.

Good three points and a clean sheet.

It is difficult to mark everyone out of 10 this week as I wasn't there, but I recon you were all shit this week as we struggled to beat a team with 10 men. So therefore I will give everyone a mark of 5 excepts for Niki who scored - 7 and man on the match, according to Chambers, Adam Barrett - 8.

or

We could see it as a good win against a difficult side away from home and everyone gets an 8, with man of the match Adam getting 9.

The choice is yours! Let me have your comments.

Next week is another league game away to Leyton County. I will post details in due course.

I also need annual subs paid as from next week I will not be able to pick you if you have not paid up - £65.

Match Report 24 October 2009 v London Welsh AFA Cup

AFA Cup v London Welsh - away - match abandoned after 25 minutes.

Not much to say about this game. Everyone knows what happened with Eamon losing it for no reason and pushing and punching the referee.

Its a shame because the game was being played in a good spirit and there wasn't a bad tackle or any kind of trouble until the incident, which just came out of the blue.

London Welsh were not a very strong team and we would have went on to win the game comfortably and be in the next round.

After the incident we carried on and played the rest of the game as a freindly, with us winning 3 -1. Great hatrick from Pasta. I thought the new ref was excellent!

Louis also played a role on the pitch and looked quite good in the right midfield/winger role, until I was told he was supposed to be playing right back.

Adam Tompkinson also showed us that he can play in goal, so Lewis beware.

The current situation is that the incident has been reported to the AFA and we are compiling our report to them. We have no defence as to what happened other that it was just one rougue player who caused the trouble out of nothing. I spoke to the referee after the game in the bar and he said that he had no problem with Minchenden as a Club or our third II in patricular and if he was asked to ref minchenden again he would do it without hesitation. The guys from London Welsh also said to me that they had no problem with us and if we needed it they would give our team (except 1) a character reference for the AFA.

It seems that we will get a large fine and be kicked out of the competition and hopefully nothing else. It would be a shame to punish the rest of the players for just one idiot.

For player ratings this week I will give everybody 9 out of 10 for keeping their composure during the whole time and the game afterwoods. I will give Pasta 10 for scoring some great goals.

Man on the match Pasta

For next weeks game it looks like I have 17 players. As I mentioned on Saturday, I will have to drop 3 players to the 4th II. For those that go down it does not mean that they will not be coming up again as you know injuries and unavailablity always occur.

Next Saturday we are back to League games and are away to Goffs Old Boys. I will post details of this later.

Match Report - Sat 17 October OB Cup v Salesians

OB CUP v Salesians
Home Lost 2 - 4
Scorers Aaron (pen), Chris

Off we went again with yet another Cup game, this time against Salesians from the SAL.

We knew that they would be a good side and that we had a tough game on our hands. We had a full squad available with 3 subs at the start of the game, but I was worrried about injuries as Chris, Eamon and Petros were all carrying injuries. Pasta also was a sub, and was also carrying an injury.

We started the game well and for the first 5 minutes looked the better side. They were good going forward and their wingers and forwards were pretty quick. On our left side their player was like a Ferrari, quick sleek and pretty with a 0 - 60 of under 5 seconds. Against him we had Chambers, a old Ford Fiesta that never let you down, and a 0 - 60 of under 5 minutes.

After about 10 minutes we lost the ball in their half and the through ball went to their foward and he ran forward and scored. He was about 10 yards off side but the ref didn't see it. I thought the ref was not fit enough ( does this mean that me and Fergie are in the same trouble?)

The goal gave them a lift and for the next 10 Minutes we were under a bit of pressure. As the half went on we finally got to grips with thier midfield and started to push forward and create chances, and with 30 minutes gone, Aaron floated a corner into the box for Chris Bagely to head into the net 1 -1

For the last 15 minutes of the half we were the better side and as the half time whistle blew, I thought that we would go on and win this game.

The second half started evenly and both sides played some good fast attacking football and Tom coming close a couple of times After about 15 minutes we lost the ball in their half and one of their super cars broke forward and scored. 1 - 2

We moved to a 4- 4 - 2 formation in order to try and get a goal back. The possession was even and both sides had chances but none of them clear cut. With 30 minutes gone, there was a drop ball on the edge of our box which we failed to clear, and the Ferrari volleyed the ball into the net. It was a good goal. 1 - 3.

We continued to push forward and got our reward with 10 minutes left, when the ball struck the hand of one of their players in the box. Penalty. Aaron stepped up and scored from the spot. 2 - 3

We contunued to push forward looking for the equaliser and with 5 minutes left we had a penalty awarded against us for hanball in the box. 2 - 4

Aaron pushed forward to make a third striker as we strived to find another goal, but it was not to be. Final score 2 - 4

We also had a few firsts this week.

Chris scored his first goal of the season
For the first time Eamon didnt get spoken to by the ref
Sean bought his first round of the season
Adam Tompkinson played his first game after being banned
Tom Sicknote Hannington didnt get injured

Next week we have yet another cup game. This time in the AFA Cup away to London Welsh reserves. I am not sure if its rugby or football? I will let you all have details by text in due course and will also post the details on the blog.

LOB Cup v Hale End Athletic 10th October 2009 - Match report

LOB Cup v Hale End Athletic
Lost 2 - 4

Another Saturday another cup game. We played our 3rd cup game in a row against a good organised team from Division 2 North.

Now we have lost a game I can cut my hair. After last weeks episode I was discussing with Aaron at training what type of headband I should wear to stop my flowing locks going into my eyes, as I would have scored a couple more goals on Thusday at training had it not been for the hair in my eyes. Should I go for the McEnroe look or the Berbatov/Torrres look. I decided on the Berbatov/Torres look. So Saturday morning before the game I found myself in Top Shop in Enfield Town with all the 15 year old girls trying headbands on. They had every bright colour available and in the end I settled for a green one (luminous). I showed my wife when I got home, and once she had picked her self up off the floor, I was persuaded that I looked like a pratt in it so in the bin it went. Maybe I will try for the McEnroe look!

We arrived nice and early for the game as we were on the top pitch for the first time this week. Nets were up and the pitch was in great condition.

With only one forward available we were restricted to playing 4 - 5 - 1, as Pasta was taken upto the twos and Petros and Harvey are both injured, but we still had a strong squad with three subs avalable.

The game did not start very well. Within the first minute they got a corner and from the corner their centre back came close with a header. We were very nervous at the back with passes and kicks going astray. The first corner should have been a warning, as a couple of minutes later they got anaother corner and the same centre back lost his marker and headed the ball into the net. 0 - 1

For the next 20 minutes they closed us down every time we got the ball and did not let us play the type of football we are capable of. It was only a matter of time before they scored their second goal. On 30 minutes they scored a second goal. 0 - 2

The second goal seemed to spark us into life. For the next 10 minutes we attacked them and had them on the back foot and our pressure was rewarded with a goal from Sean with his right foot. His first goal of the season. Half time 1 - 2.

I decided to change things at half time and play two upfront. It was a cup game and we had to score. So John Henderson came on for Sean as he was the only palyer on the bench who had played up front before, and could also play on the left if we needed to go back to 4 - 5 - 1.

The second half started the same as the first, with them having more of the ball and attacking us. After about 10 miniutes we were forced to make a substitution as Tom was caught on the ankle with a tackle and Adam Barrett came on in the middle of midfield with Eamon moving to the right.

We were still not playing well and after 15 minutes they scored a third. 1 - 3

Ben ONeil then came off for Adam Tompkinson and we went three at the back to try and chase the game. We were also fitter that they were and as the game went on, chances starting falling our way. Two chances for Niki and one for John came along and they should have scored. But unfotunately it wasnt to be and they caught us on the break and scored again. 1 - 4

We kept pressing until the end and John Henderson scored a consolation goal with 2 minutes to go.

Final score 2 - 4.

LOB is only a small cup anyway.

Old Boys Cup 3rd October 2009 v Old Owens - Match report

Won 5 - 0
Scorers: Niki Heigho 2, Aaron Wilson, Eamon Meaney, Sonny Davis

Another week, another Cup game. At least this week it was at home so we didn't have to travel to the otherside of the world to play. We welcomed Old Owens who are a side in the SAL and usually quite strong.

The conditions were not ideal with a stong wind blowing from right to left along the pitch which would have some effect on the game.

This week our sqaud was depleted with many injuries and players away, so yours truly had to be put down as a substitute, and we called in Kevin Lyons to fill the left back position and Niki Heigho, who we hope will join us permanently, to play up front.

We started the first half kicking against the wind, and playing 2 upfront in a 4 -4 - 2 formation. As expected Old Owens were a good side and started winning the midfield battle and with the wind in their favour, had us penned in our half for the first 10 minutes. Because of this, we moved Pasta back to left midfield and Carl back into the middle, so that we had 5 men in midfield to try and win the midfild battle. It was going to be a difficult half, with the wind having a big effect and with the change, we hoped to keep a clean sheet for the first half and attack them in the second half when we had the wind in our favour.

Even with the difficult conditions we were lively up front and did create a couple of good chances in the half. Luckly for us, even with the ball mainly in our half most of the time, their forward, who had longer hair than me but was uglier, couldn't score in a brothell, so we went in at half time 0 - 0.

We changed back to 4 - 4 - 2 at the begining of the second half as we thought that with the wind we could now take the game to them.

The game was now more even but they still had more of the ball during the first 15 minutes of the half, but without really creating anything. With about 15 minutes gone Carl picked up the ball in Midfield and the passed to Niki who then flicked a through ball to Sonny who had only the keeper to beat. Just when we thought he had taken it to close to the keeper, Sonny slotted the ball passed him and into the net. Against the run of play, we had scored. 1- 0.

From the kick off we won the ball straight back, and a long ball to Niki was hit on the half volley and straight into the back of the net, Great goal. 2 - 0.

Old Owens then fell apart. Arguments started within their Team and within 5 minutes we had scored another 2 goals.

The first one was a through ball to Niki who slotted it passed the goalkeeper, and the second was similar with Eamon tackling their defender and taking it through to score. 4-0 game over.

Old Owens tried to get back into the game, but for all their huffing and puffing could not score as their forward line could not hit a barn door with a shotgun.

With about 5 minutes to go, Niki was through with only the goalkeeper to beat and was taken down. Penalty. He stepped up to claim his hatrick and put the ball to the right of the keeper. The keeper went the right way and made a good save.

3 minutes later, a good run by Pasta was rewarded with another penalty as their defender brought him down and Aaron stepped up and put the penalty away. 5 - 0.

Game over, just as I was about to come on!!!

A good result against a tidy team. We are now through to the next round and play Old Salesians III in the next round. From what I can see they are anoter SAL team and the game is to be played on 17 October at home.

Game Saturday 3rd October 2009 v Old Owens

OBI Cup

Home v Old Owens III
Meet time 2pm
KO 3pm
Bramley Road

AFA Cup Away v Suttonians 26/09/2009

Won 2 -1 after extra time (Ht 1-0 Ft 1-1)

We were drawn against Suttonians in the AFA Cup so, with passports in hand, we all set off south of the river for the game. After discussions with our skipper Shag, we decided to go round the M25 over the Dartford Bridge and left the clubhouse about 12:30. Big mistake. 2 1/2 hours later we arrive at the ground (2:55) for a 3 o clock kick off.

Due to our let arrival we did not kick off until 3:15. Not the best prparation for a match.

It was not suprising that we started slowly, with Suttonians having more of the ball but without threatening our goal. After abount 15 minutes we started warming up and taking control of the game. We were pushing them back without creating any clear chances, but I felt that it was only a matter of time until we got our chance.

It came from a strange source after about 25 minutes. A corner was floated in from the right and one of their players thought he heard the whistle go, so as Chris headed the ball towards goal from the corner, their centre back put his hand up and handled it. Penalty! The whistle he had heard was from the rugby pitch next to ours. What a pratt. Aaron stepped up and scored the penalty.

The rest of the half continued in the same way as before with not many chances for either side.

The second half started with Suttonians attacking us and pinning us down in our own half. We were playing too deep and inviting them onto us. After 10 minutes Adam Barratt came off for Eamon. With about 20 minutes gone, a ball down our left was missed by Ben and their forward ran towards goal and finished well 1-1. This was one of the few chances they had had all game.

We then changed to 4 -4-2, with Harvey coming on for the injured Tom Hannington, and also tried to squeeze the game by playing a higher line.

The tactic worked. We pressed them for the next 25 minutes creating many goalscoring opporutinities and should have scored at least three goals. Chances were missed by Sean, Sonny and Andy Blackburn, where you thought that they would score. Ft 1 - 1. Extra time

Extra time started the same way as the second half finished, with us pressing them and creating many chances. Unfortunately, Harveys hamstring injury started playing up so he was less moble during extra time, but we were still pressing and creating opportunities. They hit us on he break a couple of times with Lewis making a couple of fine saves.

Two minutes to go and I was thinking of who would be taking the penalties. We got a freekick on the left about 40 yards out, after Sean was fouled. Aaron stepped up and floated a great ball into the box which was flicked on by Eamon into the corner. GOAL 2-1. I tore up my list of penalty takers.

Pasta then went in the the midfield to give us a 4-5-1 formation for the last minute and the whistle went shortly after. Great win.

A good overall performance against a good side and we shoiwed that we were also fitter that them, which was good to see.

League winners 2008-09 photo

Away v Bealonians 19/09/09 - Match report

OMFC win 2 - 1 (HT 0 - 0)

After winning division 6 north last season and gaining promotion to 5 north, we started our season with a difficuly game against Bealonians who are a stong club, with their 1st XI winning the Premier last season.

We started the game strongly with a 4-5-1 formation, and for the first 20 minutes played some good football, leaving tthe Bealonians players chasing shadows, and had a couple of chances to take the lead with Chris Nicolaou coming close. As the first half went on, we started to find it difficult to break down their defence who were physical and organised. They did not really pose a threat to our goal other than by a few long balls that were dealt with comfortably by our back 4. The half finished goaless, although we were by far the better side.

The second half started much like the end of the first with us having most of the possession but not being able to break down their defence. The game changed 15 minutes into the first half when we changed our formation to 4-4-2, by pairing Richard Agostini up front with Chris Nicolaou. About 2 minutes after the change, and against the run of play, they had an attack and long range shot beat Lewis Pontin to give Bealonians the lead. Great change eh?

Straight from the kick off we attacked down the left hand side with Sean Gallagher crossing the ball for Chris Nicolaou to volley the ball straight into the net, 1 - 1.

With 25 minutes to go, Tom Hannington had to come off injured, with Carl Stapleton taking his place.

We continuied to press forward looking for the winner and with 20 minutes to go a cross from the right hand side saw Richard Agostini put the ball in the back of the net. For some reason the ref saw it as offside and dissallowed the goal. Big mistake by the ref.

We continued to press forward and got our reward with Eamon Meaney scoring from close range 2 - 1.

Adam Barrett came on for Chris Bradley to sure up our midfield with about 10 minuted to go.

Another cross from the right saw Richard head the ball into the net, only for the ref to dissallow it for a push.

With 2 minutes to go Eamon disputed a free kick and was given a yellow card by the referee. From the free kick he was given a second yellow card and sent off for not being 10 yards from the kick. Not very clever!

The final whistle then went with a good 3 points earned.

Team and player ratings:

Louis Pontin 7 Didn't have a lot to do.
Andy Blackburn 7 Solid at the back and organised well
Aaron Wilson 7 Also solid and well organised
Sean Gallagher 7 Played out of position and did well when controlled
Ben O'Neil 7 Good solid performance
Sonny Davis 9 Dont know how he beats players in slow motion. Great performace
Chris Bradley 7 As committed as ever and gave everything
Eamon Meaney 8 Was all over the pitch getting tackles in. Shame about last 2 mins
Tom Hannington 7 Good performance even though must have been tired from travelling
Richard Agostini 7 Played well. Was better when moved upfront
Chris Nicolaou 7 Good movement and good goal
Carl Stapleton 7 Came on and did very well
Adam Barrett 7 Didn't have time to shine but did the job he was asked

Man of the Match: Sonny Davis
